This Mint Mobile unlimited plan includes:

  • Data: Unlimited, first 50GB/month at high speeds (5G/4G LTE) prior to possible de-prioritization during periods of high network congestion. If you need more high speed data, then you can purchase a once-monthly data add-on in your account. The Unlimited plan recently boosted both this data allotment and the mobile hotspot allotment significantly recently.
  • Mobile Hotspot Tethering: 20GB/month allowance at high speeds.
  • Video Streaming: 1.5Mbps (480p resolution).
  • Talk/Text: Unlimited.
  • International Features: Free calls to Canada and Mexico. Free texts to 190+ countries. 3GB of high-speed roaming data per month while roaming in Canada before speeds slow to 128Kbps.

Switching to Mint Mobile is about as easy as it gets. Compatible bring your own phone (BYOP) devices include most unlocked, GSM-network phones – e.g. unlocked AT&T, T-Mobile, Cricket Wireless, Simple Mobile, and Straight Talk phones. And, if your device is eSIM compatible, you can activate immediately.

My Take: with the 50GB/month of high-speed data and 20GB/month hotspot, you’re probably not going to find a better price on any mobile plan (both of these data allotments were increased recently with no price increase). You do have to pay for multiple months, but I don’t really see any gotchas here – just a healthy amount of high-speed data for a low price. If you haven’t used T-Mobile’s network, and you give Mint a try and find it doesn’t meet your needs for your location, you can cancel your service for any reason within 7 days of activation and Mint will refund you 100% of the purchase price, including any fees and taxes – so there’s no risk involved. I travel frequently and have been pleasantly surprised with the service.

If you don’t like Mint’s service, the phone is unlocked after just 60 days on their service and you can take it elsewhere later on.
