Groupon is offering BJ’s Wholesale Club membership discounts of $35 off of the purchase of a new annual “Club” membership (normally $55) with auto-renewal – leaving a cost of $20 for membership. Those who claim the offer are also eligible for a bonus $20 reward after making a $60 purchase within 30 days of membership enrollment. This offer is available on new BJ’s Wholesale Club memberships. With this offer, you’d be purchasing a new BJ’s Wholesale Club “Club” (standard level) membership for $20 (normally $55), and not the higher level “Club+” membership that costs $110.
For the $20 reward, you’ll need to spend $60 (before discounts and taxes), in one transaction in-club or on BJs.com within 30 days of membership enrollment. You’ll then get a $20 reward added to the primary membership account within 24 hours of qualifying purchase to be used within 30 days of receipt. If not redeemed within 30 days of receipt, reward will no longer be available.
One way to look at this offer: if you’re also able to qualify for the $20 reward (with purchase) and then use it, that would effectively bring your net membership cost down to $0.

In general with wholesale clubs, if you shop wisely by focusing on high-volume food purchases (particularly with generic house brands), you can save a significant amount versus typical grocery stores. BJ’s claims that you can “Save up to 25% off grocery store prices”.
A new BJ’s Wholesale Club opened about 13 miles from our house in the last year, so I’ve been curious to check them out. BJ’s now has nearly 250 locations across 20 states, mostly in the Northeast, East coast, and Midwest.
Offer Expiration: it’s not entirely clear how long this offer will be live and there is no clear expiration date. I’ve seen similar offers pop up before and then disappear fairly quickly, without warning.
