Finally! TransUnion Delivers on their Class Action Settlement Benefits

TransUnion Settlement Benefits Delivered

For the old-school readers of 20somethingfinance, you may remember a post I did about 18 months ago on the TransUnion settlement from a class action lawsuit. If you didn’t sign up to receive free benefits at that time – it’s too late (sorry).

If you did sign up to receive benefits, good news may have come (or will be coming shortly). I FINALLY received my notice by email today that I can now claim the benefits:

Your registration number is <>. Be sure to enroll soon as your registration number is only available for a limited time.  Please note that our records indicate that you also registered for the potential cash benefit.  A final determination as to whether there will be a distribution of the cash benefits and, if any, the amount of any distribution, will not occur before September 2010 and could occur as late as October 2011.  You may visit the website www.ListClassAction.com for updates regarding this potential benefit.

transunion settlementI now have credit score monitoring and unlimited credit report access for the next six months.

Reasons why you Might Want to Monitor your Credit

The access to the credit scores may be a great way for you to monitor the kind of impact certain actions (such as increasing/decreasing your total credit line or opening/closing a new credit account) have on your credit score, as you are able to see trending of your score over time. I plan on running a few experiments with my six months of access.

This is great first-hand knowledge to have if you are in the process or will be applying for a consumer loan anytime soon. If you did not apply for benefits but want to do this same kind of credit monitoring, I’d recommending checking out, Credit Karma, which has free credit score monitoring!

Credit Monitoring Discussion:

  • For what reasons have you monitored your credit?
  • What impact did certain actions have on your credit score?

I did sign up for the lawsuit and I qualify. BUT>> I have been sent the email to check over my information at least 5 times during the begining phase of the sign up email. I was surprised to see that the company representing all of us did not have accurate information on me. There was a lot of missing information and or inncorect information. I filled it out as best I could. The next time I received the email, Some of the information I had placed in the last time, was missing, some of it. I just recently inquired about the settlement to see if it has been resolved and it has not. The email asked me to go over my information again, At the bottom of the page the letter also stated this. (IM TRYING TO REMEMBER)
        1. IF YOU LEAQVE OUT ANY INFOMATION, AND LINES NOT FILLED IN AND OR IF ANY OF THE INFORMATION IS INACURATE…

**** YOU WILL NOT RECVIEVE ANY PART OF THE SETTLEMENT*****

This is upsetting to me. I happen to not remember my last address, I remember my street and town and state but not the other information. I have to wonder why this professional company does not have this information already. For my own reasons my information in my home is in disaray and I cannot find this information. Let me give you an example, Lets say that recently something happend inside my home, and this has caused me to not be in my home for 4 months, lets say that inside my home my office is in complete disaray for a reason. papers, files, etc as if a whirlwind came in a few times and left.

So not, I am cut out of any settlement?????
The damage to our credit etc did not happen to the law firm representing us. They stand to gain a lot mor emoney than we will. And yet, if I were to type my street address wrong then they will cut me out? If I cannot remember the building number to where I had lived before, then they cut us out?

This is what is happening to me. So look closesly at the letter, emails they send you, look around the info that is about this. By law because they announce it.. If you make one mistake one, or leave out any info, anything. They have a right to cut you out.

        • Client Of Lawusit says:

OH My Gosh! I looked at what I wrote and right off I see a typo error.. I guess I am cut out of the settlement for sure.

people ripping people off over and over and over again.

Can you imagine an older couple trying to take care of this or someone like me that has reasons why they cannot remember or find the infomation. And why did they just ask me for this info now, That information was not requested before dec 2010 and I was told to fill out what ever I could. NOT. hey, you make a mistake, your out!

    Hi,

I received the Email about signing up for these benefits, but deleted it along with my registration number. How can I get this email sent to me again with my registration number?

    Thanks!

    • Shannon Muhammad says:

I received and e-mail and I did submit my information for this law suit, I got a registration number but I never heard anything back from Trans Union. How can I find out the status.

  • sp says:

I just received the email and had to google to make sure it wasn’t spam/virus. It’s been so long that I didn’t even remember signing up for the settlement!

  • CM says:

I opened the link and it’s asking for my social security number. Concerning because lots of theives minic what appear to be legitimate web sites and ask for social security numbers or other equally sensitive information that can be most detrimental in the wrong hands. How does one know if the e-mail they are receiving that contains the link legitimately routes them to a legit web site?

    • Client Of Lawusit says:

My answer to your question is this.

You did what a smart person should do but this company choose to send the info through email instead of in the postal mail. If you read my entry about about what my exsperience is with this company and the settlement, after reading your email, Im thinking that possibly the law firm does these things because more people will not be involved and so more money will be distributed to the law firm. That is what I think based on what is happening and what I am exsperienceing also.

      Im not surprised.

  • Stee says:

I’m very lery about fillinlg out the claim form because it is asking for my socialsecurity number. How do I know if this is a legitimate site/claim and not some scam…

  • Rico Rossi says:

These texas attorneys robbed alot of people out of their sttlement because if you didn’t get their email or if they are asking you something personal on the internet and you don’t want to give out your private information and i don’t blame you then you WON’T get your money. Sending emails to claimants is not professional and they refused to send every person who made a claim a letter in the United States mail like professional attorneys then we are out that settlement money. I called the attorneys and they said they wanted to SAVE on postage. The people who are out that money are also the same people who these 2 attorneys allow transunion to ROB you of your personal identity. They also allow transunion to commit a crime.

  • Rico Rossi says:

I’m sure other people like myself got ripped off in their transunion class action suit. The emails that was sent out i never recieved. The texas attorneys that are handling the class action suit are Terry Saunders and Ryan Thompson both from austin texas. These attorneys wanted to save postage so they both agreed to send out emails to everyone so i w2as told by the project manager when i called. What a stupid way of doing business and unprofessional. Everytime i had to deal with a attorney it was always done by telephone or the United States mail.I submitted my form online before the deadline of august 31 2010. I submitted my form on august 15 2010. So the people that NEVER ever got a email or they thought it was spam or the email wanted personal info from you like a social security number plus myself ALL GOT RIPPED OFF from any cash settlement. I have people in washington d.c. plus somebody in texas that might be able to still get me in plus everybody that still might have a chance in getting money should all join me at http://www.sueeasy.com see you there!!!!!!!

  • Khadija Echevarria says:

I have received lots of emails which gave me the impression that the lawsuit was finished and distribution already took place. Since I didn’t receive anything from the lawyers I assumed that I did not qualify and therefore I completely discarded everything I kept on the submission of my claim. What do I do now. I am since this week receiving voicemails and text messages to go to the website. I no longer have the registration number so I don’t know what to do.

  • David Allen Ferrell says:

I filled out everything properly, yet I haven’t seen any money or e-mails what-so-ever. I’m starting ti think that these lawyers are scamming us. I simply want what the courts said I’m entitled too. I feel that’s a reasonable request. If somebody could tell me who to call, I’d sure be very grateful. David Allen Ferrell

  • Janice says:

I accepted as soon as I received my offer but have yet to hear anything…. what should I do?

  • Rio says:

I’ve been waiting to hear the results from the outcome of the class action and have not received any notifications either by email nor snail mail. I’ve held onto a copy of my initial claim form filled out in 2008 which shows my registration number. It would be helpful to be able to contact a representative to find out what options remain, if any at this late juncture. Thanks to anyone who responds to this message.
