just to let ya'll know, I've been shopping at dodge dealerships in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. From what I've been getting, they are lowering prices to the actual dealer invoice, then adding the chrysler rebates ($1k-$4k) So the deals are ok, not great. I'm looking at a Charger R/T, whose msrp ~$33k, invoice ~$30k, and are offering me then chrysler rebates for ~$27k. So good, not great deal.

I've never owned a new car. They're just too expensive! But if I could get a great deal on one with a reliable track record as far as maintenance goes, then I might be willing to pay a small premium. But I'd have to get a DEEP discount off the original sticker price before that happens.

I might try this out. It looks like there's a cluster of these dealers within a short drive. Maybe I could get them to compete against each other?

Perfect timing. I know that they were closing, but I didn't know the date was June 9. I'm looking for a new Jeep for my dad - he's driving around a 1985 Mercedes piece of junk. Anyone know anything about the new cash for clunkers program?

And I agree, you won't see prices like these for a looong time.

Yeah, you're right, Chrysler vehicles do suck, but this might be too good of an opportunity to pass up. I have a few dealerships within 20 miles that I might be paying a visit to. No harm in absolutely low-balling to see what happens.
