The keep more of your paycheck is often over looked by young people especially. Since they don't know what to do with their money they use it as an alternative.

Ah, great article. I Stumbled it. You know, during financial tough times our actions are simply more extreme versions of what our everyday finances should look like. Taking that to heart can lead to long-term consequences.

Love your blog, the content and the look of the site.

Agree with #9 that this is the wrong time to be pulling money out of the market. For sure, keep some money in cash to remain liquid in the case of an emergency or, god forbid, a bank run, but these are unprecedented times reminiscent of the downturn in the market post- the tech bubble and around Sept 11, 2001.

Those that were able to stomach the volatility then and invested came out looking good in 2006 and the early part of 2007 (and I hope liquidated some of their holdings then). Those that stayed by the sidelines but eventually got in still did okay as well, but the returns weren't as juiced.

The saying is true that in crisis lies opportunity and this one, in time, will be viewed as one of those rare opportunities in a person's lifetime.
